I wish my Halloween parties would turn out this well.

In 1997, I was a senior in high school developing a healthy hatred for society and pop music (yet I had no problem with alternative stuff, which was more popular than pop). Anyway, I was watching MTV late one night, and I discovered a show called “Amp”. It was filled with the most bizarre things… sounds I’d never heard, songs with no vocals or even guitars, videos that looked like computer games. Music and videos with seemingly no human interaction? SIGN ME UP!

These were my first baby steps down the path to electronic music, and this video was the one that first made me take it seriously. Something just crystallized the first time I saw it… a very simplistic song with only five elements, each represented by one of the groups of bad Halloween costumes, all going around the world, around the WORLD. Bright colors and dancing and happy sounds… completely contrasting every single alterni-metal track in my music collection… and yet I couldn’t help myself. I had to dance along.
