We finish our exercise week with a story ripped from the 1996 Olympics.

What I really like about this one is what you can read between the lines. Our hero testing her injured ankle, her enthusiastic father with a disinterested partner, her mother arriving late on the arms of her new man, the expressions of her rival throughout the performance, even the background of each shot is spot on.

Jonze really does a great job getting you to root for little Janet. This serves to make the finale, which casts the most amazing moment of this young girl’s life as just another forgotten photograph in some high school’s trophy case, all the more poignant.

It may creep you out a little to hear that Jonze later married the star of this video, Sophia Coppola. But don’t be alarmed, she’s actually about 25-years-old here.
