I hear the toasters look like us now.

When I heard that Chris Cunningham was doing a Bjork video, I was expecting something weird and frightening. Instead, we’ve received this tender love story featuring two androids. Which may be weird and frightening to some viewers, I’m sure, but nothing compared to what one should expect when hearing Chris Cunningham and Bjork in the same sentence.

There’s not much to say about this one other than it’s masterfully done. The deliberate pacing matches the flow of the song. The interplay between the mechanical and the organic is everywhere, from the Bjork-androids themselves (you almost feel like a voyeur during their embrace) to their industrial background with flowing liquid and flickering lights.

Next time you’re thinking about machines becoming self-aware and replicating themselves (hi2u Mass Effect players), keep this video in mind. Would machines really replicate unchecked and try to conquer the world? Or would they, given the chance, take a more human approach to reproduction?
